Ford 6.7L Power Stroke DCR Fuel Pump Conversions
Protect Your Ford 6.7L Power Stroke from CP4 Failure
The factory Bosch CP4 high pressure fuel pump found on 2011 to 2025 Ford F-250 through F-750 diesel trucks has a well-earned reputation for failing without warning. With modern U.S. diesel fuel lacking lubricity and trucks demanding over 27,000 psi of fuel rail pressure, high pressure pump failure is a common occurrence.
When it goes out, it sends fine metal shavings through your entire high pressure fuel system. This means you aren't just replacing a pump, you are forced to replace the fuel injectors, fuel rails and fuel cooler, flush the fuel lines and clean out the fuel tank. Dealing with a failed CP4 system costs easily over $10,000 and lengthy down time.
At Diesel Tech in Hemet, CA, we permanently eliminate this vulnerability by removing the fragile factory CP4 pump and installing the S&S Diesel DCR fuel pump conversion kit. Whether you daily drive your 6.7L Power Stroke, use it as a commercial workhorse, or rely on it to pull your toy hauler or boat, this upgrade gives you the reliability diesels are historically know for.
While we are in there, we handle a few other potential failure points. Every time we do a DCR Conversion we de-carbon and clean the throttle body, upper and lower intake manifolds and MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensor. 2011-2019 year model trucks receive a new upper intake manifold and MAP sensor. At no additional labor cost, now is the time to do new coolant crossover gaskets, thermostat and the turbo coolant line on some year models. These items can be handled with only the cost of the part, no additional labor which is why we handle them at the same time. If you haven't had a new coolant done, we'll do that too. These are optional ad ons but highly recommended when doing the conversion.
Our shop serves truck owners across Hemet, Menifee, and Temecula who want to upgrade their rigs before a pump failure forces their hand.
The Reality: Factory CP4 Pump vs. The S&S DCR Upgrade
-
The Problem (Factory CP4): It relies on a roller-and-pin design that can rotate sideways if fuel lubrication drops. Once it rotates, it begins grinding itself down, sending metal debris straight into your fuel rails and injectors.
-
The Fix (S&S Diesel DCR): Co-developed by S&S Diesel Motorsport and PurePower Technologies, this pump uses a completely redesigned two-piston layout engineered specifically to handle the durability demands of US diesel fuel. It features a compact, modular design with a 25% increase in fuel delivery over the stock pump, producing plenty of flow while keeping its components pressure-lubricated. It is a true drop-in alternative that looks like original equipment and requires no aftermarket computer tuning or calibration modifications.
Clean, Reliable Power That Stays California Smog Legal
Living and working in California means every modification has to pass inspection. The S&S Diesel DCR pump solves the reliability problem without creating an emissions headache.
Because it matches your factory Ford computer calibration exactly, it requires zero custom tuning to function perfectly. Your factory safety features stay fully active, and your truck remains 100% CARB compliant for California smog checks (CARB Executive Order #D-756-7). It is the cleanest, most reliable way to protect your 2011–2025 truck while staying completely legal.
Built for Every Type of Truck Owner
-
Towing & Recreation: If you pull a heavy toy hauler into the desert or a boat to the river, the last thing you want is a catastrophic fuel failure. This pump ensures your truck handles heavy loads reliably.
-
Daily Transportation: Keep your primary truck out of the shop and on the blacktop. Handing the truck over for a quick preventative pump upgrade is always faster and significantly cheaper than dealing with a completely contaminated common-rail fuel system down the road.
-
Commercial Operations: We manage and maintain local commercial fleets of up to 70 vehicles. We know that when your work trucks are sitting in a bay, your business is losing money. We regularly outfit entire commercial fleets with these DCR pumps before a failure happens, ensuring your business stays up and running. We get these conversions done cleanly and efficiently to minimize your downtime.
Straightforward Diesel Repair Since 2004
Working on high pressure common rail diesel injection systems requires clean bays, precision timing and the right equipment. Since 2004, Diesel Tech has been repairing light and medium-duty trucks in Riverside County. Our facility uses factory OEM diagnostic tools and software to make sure every conversion is executed perfectly.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How long does the DCR installation take? A: Most DCR pump conversions are completed within 1 to 2 business days.
Q: Will this modification void my smog compliance? A: No. The S&S DCR pump has an official California Air Resources Board (CARB) Executive Order number (EO# D-756-7), making it 50-state legal and fully compliant with local smog checks.
Q: Will my truck require any tuning to make the new DCR pump work correctly? A: No, the DCR Conversion kit is a true drop in upgrade, we install these kits on completely stock trucks with no tuning or modifications.
Q: Should I just wait until my current pump starts acting up? A: We highly recommend against waiting. The CP4 pump rarely gives a warning sign before it goes out; it usually fails instantly while driving, causing sudden power loss. Once it fails, the repair cost skyrockets because you have to replace the injectors, fuel rails, lines and flush and clean the rest of the fuel system. Doing the DCR upgrade proactively saves you thousands of dollars in secondary damage.
